What is going on at home
Pick the closest match. You get the likely cause and what to do right now, before anyone arrives.
Water is dripping or leaking
- Likely cause
- A worn washer or valve, a loose fitting, or a supply line that is past its life.
- Do this now
- Close the shutoff valve under the fixture and set a bucket under the drip. If you cannot find the source, shut off the main.
There is no hot water
- Likely cause
- A failed heating element or igniter, a tripped breaker, a pilot that went out, or an aging tank full of sediment.
- Do this now
- Check the breaker or pilot light. Do not open the tank. If water pools under the unit, shut off its cold supply.
A drain is slow or clogged
- Likely cause
- Hair, soap and grease build up near the fixture, or a blockage further down the line.
- Do this now
- Skip the chemical cleaners and try a plunger. If more than one drain is slow, the main line may be the problem.
The toilet runs or will not flush
- Likely cause
- A worn flapper, a fill valve that no longer shuts off, or a chain caught under the flapper.
- Do this now
- Turn the valve behind the toilet clockwise to stop it filling, and keep the lid closed until it is fixed.
A pipe burst or water is spreading
- Likely cause
- A frozen or aging pipe, a failed connector, or high water pressure.
- Do this now
- Shut off the main water valve right away. Turn off power to wet areas only if it is safe, then call us.
